From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot showcasing divine entities, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Revealing details for the third episode of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to undertake their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The combat-focused team features Teor (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
The Reason for Division
Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.
That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Combat Party
According to the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
First, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing kicked off the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.
The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Additionally, each member has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to kill the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
- Yet, their status as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a life debt to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- Thimble and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
- The strong figure and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to journey toward the remote area in quest for Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to round up the Seekers and Strategists groups.
Audiences can expect learning which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
